From Director's Desk

I am pleased to take every one of you to the first quarterly e-Newsletter of the Indian Institute of Food Processing Technology for the period January - March 2021 briefing the major events and outcomes. Amidst challenging situation due to covid pandemic, we have made tremendous efforts in maintaining safe working ambiance and breakthrough accomplishments with the assumed institutional goals.
In the recent past, Ministry of Food Processing Industries in partnership with the State/UT Governments has launched an all India centrally sponsored Prime Minister Formalisation of Micro food processing Enterprises Scheme (PM-FME Scheme) under the Aatma Nirbhar Bharat Abhiyan for providing financial, technical and business support for upgrading the existing Micro level food processing enterprises. As a nodal agency, IIFPT has been handholding 19 states for providing capacity building and training for State and District officials, developing curricula and training modules in association with State-level technical institutes.
Remembering the anniversary of Dr. V. Subrahmanyan, the founder Director of IIFPT the institute organised an endowment lecture event. Dr. R.A. Mashelkar, National Research Professor, Former Director General, Council of Scientific & Industrial Research (CSIR) and Secretary, Department of Scientific & Industrial Research (DSIR) delivered the endowment lecture virtually. As a token of recognition, the best performing staff members of IIFPT were honoured on the occasion.
The various conferences, training programs and workshops in this quarter focused on relevant areas as demanded by industries, students and other stakeholders. Technologies and management strategies disseminated via., digital media were highly significant and benefitted a large number of participants. We also would place on record, the experts from reputed institutes and organization in India and abroad delivered talks on wide-range of topics and brought fresh insights into various fields of learning.
We are enlightened by the announcement of NIFTEM bill in Rajya Sabha which would enable IIFPT to become an institute of national importance. In view of the upgradation, challenges before us are enormous, however, with the support from all stakeholders, faculty, staff and students we are setting a new standard in research, education and skill development to fulfil the nation's agenda in food processing.
