Prof. Dr. M. Loganathan, Director(i/c), National Institute of Food Technology, Entrepreneurship and Management - Thanjavur (NIFTEM-T), is a well-known Entomologist with 22 years of vast experience in Research, Teaching, Extension, and Administration. Dr Logu earned his Ph.D. in Agricultural Entomology in 1999 from TNAU. He has been the Dean(i/c)(Academics and Student welfare), Head of the Academic and Human Resource Development, and priorly Professor and Head of Primary Processing, Storage and Handling at NIFTEM-T.
His research contribution to 'Grain Storage' is laudable, especially on monitoring stored product insects in food products, its management strategies and thermal disinfestation of paddy using solar energy. He also provides consultancy and handles industry projects on safe storage of food products and insect management. He has successfully completed several sponsored projects, including the DST project on "Design and Development of Solar Photovoltaic Powered Cold Storage System" collaborating with NIT, Trichy. His research endeavours are well documented in the form of highly commendable publications in reputed International Journals. He is also the author of …. book chapters published by coveted publishers. He has supervised more than 22 Bachelor's, 15 Master's Theses and 4 doctoral degree students.
Dr Logu was a Visiting Researcher at the University of Manitoba, Winnipeg, Canada for six months from May to October 2010. He worked on "Effect low and high temperatures on Callasobruchus maculatus in chickpea. He is also experienced in thermal disinfestation of flour mills. He visited the University of Queensland, Australia, for the workshop in the collaborative international project on "Ensuring Food Security: Harnessing Science to Protect Our Grain Harvest from Insect Threat" during 2010 and 2012.
He attended and presented a paper in the 11th International Working Conference on Stored Product Protection (IWCSPP 2014) held at Chiang Mai, Thailand in November 2015. Dr. Logu visited Brunel University, London to attend the meeting of DBT sponsored Indo-UK collaborative project on "Grain Care" in January 2018. He also conducts many outreach programmes, seminars and workshops at many places across the country to popularize food processing values to stakeholders.
