Dr. K.A. Athmaselvi is an Associate Professor and Head of center for excellence in grain science at the Indian Institute of Food Processing Technology, Thanjavur, India. She received her B.Tech (Ag. Engg) from MPKV, Rahuri, Maharastra and M.E (Agri. Processing) from TNAU, Coimabtore. She started her career as lecturer in the department of Food Processing and Preservation Technology, at Avinashilingam University, Coimbatore from 1999 to 2004. She served as Associate Professor and Head - department of Food Process Engineering at SRM Institute of Science and Technology for 15 years. She pursued her PhD in Food Process Engineering from SRM Institute of Science and Technology. She has guided several undergraduate and post graduate students. She is Preventive Control Qualified Individual (PCQI) Lead Instructor. She has published several research papers in reputed journal. She has organized various national and international conference/workshop. She has filed 3 patents. She visited University of Nottingham under Erasmus mobility scheme; she also visited Harare Institute of Technology, as external examiner.
She is interested in Non-Thermal preservation of tropical fruit pulp using Ohmic heating, Pulsed Electric Field Sterilization, Ultrasound etc. She also works on preservation of fruits and vegetables using edible coating, extruded products, and development of food powder.
