Dr. S. Bhuvana had completed her doctoral degree (Ph.D.) in Biochemistry by receiving a fellowship sponsored by University Grants Commission (UGC), India. Her Doctoral dissertation was on cardio protective role of certain herbal drugs on ageing rats. She had joined as Scientist in National Institute of Food Technology, Entrepreneurship and Management (NIFTEM), Thanjavur, during the year 2010 and had associated on several institutional researches viz., Quality Profile of Indian Rice Varieties, Process Modification of Low Glycemic Index Rice etc. As Principal Investigator, she had executed several projects funded by MoFPI, India and NIFTEM, Thanjavur, including Novel approach in development of functional food for ageing cardiovascular disease, Process modification of low carbohydrate diet food, Extraction and potential utilization of bioactive compounds from onion waste etc., She served as In-charge for Food Testing Laboratory, Mobile Food Testing Laboratory, Deputy Quality Manager in Chemical Testing during which period, she had performed several on-spot analysis of food adulteration programs, conducted a research on Effect of different pre-treatment protocols on toxic gossypol free cotton seed product focusing to eliminate the toxic gossypol and thus developing a protein rich ice cream from cotton seed. She had also served as Deputy Quality Manager of the NIFTEM, Thanjavur Food Testing Laboratory which is a NABL Accredited ISO/IEC 17025:2017 and is a recognized FSSAI Referral Laboratory. During this time, she had participated in several Food Safety and Quality Testing programs on food and agricultural commodities and had contributed for the determination and standardization of permissible levels of various food contaminants for deriving Food Safety Standard Regulations. In the year 2018, she had received honorary degree (D. Litt.) from The Trustees of Ashcroft University, London. She had published her research findings extensively in various national and international peer reviewed journals, presented the same in various national and international conferences with a Best Poster Award and have given radio talks in All India Radio, Trichy as a part of outreach activity. She is recipient of several prestigious awards like, Bhartiya Udyog Ratan Gold Medal Award, Bharat Ratna Mother Teresa Gold Medal Award and Food Safety Award 2020 for her contribution to Food Safety and Quality Testing of Food and Agricultural Commodities.
