Logu obtained his Doctorate degree in Agricultural Entomology in 1999. For his Doctoral dissertation he worked on "Evaluation of Bacillus thuriengensis for the management of lepidopteran pests in chickpea and cauliflower”. He had also worked on Evaluation of sex pheromones for the management of Helicoverpa armigera in cotton for his master’s dissertation.
Logu has been serving for this Institute since 1999. He is handling national and international research projects on grain storage, monitoring of stored product insects and management of insects in food products. He is also providing consultancy and handling industry projects on insect management.
During his tenure, he conducted research in areas related to management of stored product insects in grain storage. He has developed technologies for controlling psocids in grain storage. He had also developed methods for thermal disinfestation of paddy using solar energy. He is also handling a DST sponsored project on “Design and Development of Solar Photovoltaic Powered Cold Storage System” in collaboration with NIT, Trichy. He has widely published his research findings in national and international journals and conferences.
He was a Visiting Researcher at University of Manitoba, Winnipeg, Canada for a period of six months from May 2010 to October 2010. During that time, he worked on the “Effect of low and high temperatures on Callosobruchus maculatus in chickpea”. He is also experienced in thermal disinfestation of flour mills. He has trained for GMP, HACCP and Internal Auditing by Manitoba Food Safety Knowledge Centre, Winnipeg, Canada. He has visited University of Queensland, Australia for the workshop in the project on "Ensuring Food Security: Harnessing Science to Protect Our Grain Harvest from Insect Threat” during 2010 and 2012. He also conducts many outreach programmes, seminars and workshops at many places across the country to popularize food processing values to stakeholders.
He attended and presented a paper in the 11th International Working Conference on Stored Product Protection (IWCSPP 2014) held at Chiang Mai, Thailand in November 2015. He is also doing consultancy for the industries to manage the insects in their grain and food product storage.
As Co-PI, he visited Brunel University, London to attend the meeting of DBT sponsored Indo-UK collaborative project on “Grain Care” during January 2018. He visited the University of Guelph, University of Saskatchewan, Canada and various Canadian food industries during November 2022. He also attended the first-ever international event Plant Forward - Canada’s plant-based ingredient and food supply and innovation.
He guides M. Tech. and Ph.D. students for their project work in the areas related to Grain storage and pest management. His area of specializations are Grain storage and Stored Product Insect Management.
